John & Jerry are Hall of Famers
Congratulations to John Randle and Jerry Rice, who were elected to join the Pro Football Hall of Fame as part of the 2010 class. Two class acts and fan favorites have received the ultimate honor: to be enshrined with the legends of football. Tez made it to the short list of 10 names and should stand a good chance of having his named called for the 2011 class.
Randle was an instant force for the Seahawks defense in his first season in Seattle (2001) and turned in one of most productive seasons in team history with 11 sacks, four forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in the endzone for a TD. One big reason Seahawks fans went home hoarse after a home game. Oh to have a DT like that again.
Rice raised a bit of controversy when he got permission from Steve Largent to wear his retired #80 when he signed with the Seahawks a few games into the 2004 season. But it was a class act from a Hall of Famer to grant permission to a future Hall of Famer to wear the number and make the fans proud. Rice did his part, and his final three NFL TDs came in a Seahawks uniform sporting the legendary #80.
Players today would do well to follow the mindset and determination that made these two, and those already in the Hall, so successful .
