Seahawks o Seahawks

A poem - as blatantly ripped off from Walt Whitman, and modified by Tomahawker: And now, I give you - Seahawks o Seahawks
Seahawks o Seahawks –
COME my helmet-faced children,Follow well in order, get your game day weapons ready,Have you your pads? Have you your sharp-edged skills?Seahawks! O Seahawks!
For we cannot tarry here,You must play my Seahawks, you must bear the brunt of game day,You the youthful sinewy races, all the 12th man on you depend,Seahawks! O Seahawks!
O you youths, athletic youths,So impatient, full of action, full of manly pride and friendship,Plain we see you athletic youths, see you tramping in the team tunnelSeahawks! O Seahawks!
Has the team descended? Was the road of late so toilsome? Did we the 12th man not encourage?,Seahawks! O Seahawks!
Have the coaches halted?Do they droop and end their lesson, wearied over there beyondthe benches? You must take up the game eternal, and the burden and the lesson,Seahawks! O Seahawks!
All the past we now leave behind, no hope of plays in 2009We must embark upon a newer mightier team, varied team,Fresh and strong the team we must build, team of labor and ready to march,Seahawks! O Seahawks!
With players steady throwing,Down the edges, through the passes, up the sidelines deep,Conquering defenses, holding the line, daring, venturing frequently to the end zone,Seahawks! O Seahawks!
O restless restless team!O beloved team members all! O my 12th man heart aches for all!O I mourn the losses and yet exult the wins, I am rapt for all,Seahawks! O Seahawks!
Raise now the mighty 12th man flag,Waving high over Qwest Field, over all the fanatical fans,(bend your heads all,)Raise the 12th man flag and our warlike cries,Seahawks! O Seahawks!
See your fans, their children, and children’s children,By the swarms of their voices upon your ears you must never yield the game or falter,Ages back in ghostly thousands, cheering fans behind you urging, play offs – play offsSeahawks! O Seahawks!
Till the sound of the whistle in 2010Far, far off next season calls—hark! how loud and clear you hear the 12th man already,Swift! to the draft board – swift to the practice field, then swift to the head of the team tunnel!—swift! spring to your places,Seahawks! O Seahawks!

Play the Blame Game?

Since many of the Seahawk games did not materialize and become as entertaining as we have been accustomed to in recent years, it seems the game of choice for many is now... The Blame Game. Let's Play the Blame Game.... I say, let's NOT.
What good does it do? For those who have to play the blame game, go ahead, get it out of your system. You and I know all you will really get out of it is that you get the satisfaction of saying - AHHHHHH..HAAAAAA....... It's YOUR fault!! Ok, go ahead if you must - (I'll wait while you do it.. ^_^)
OK - got that out of your system? Did it make you feel better? NOW WHAT?? Did it fix the team issues? Did it heal the injured players? Did it fix the issues with management? NOPE... But by golly, you got the satisfaction of say AHHHH..HAAA!!
Yeah, I am frustrated, as are many fans and booster club members. Rather than play the meaningless blame game, l say let's put our energy into supporting the rebuilding process and the changes that are about to happen.
Let's all get on the same page - and let's all say, "Ahhhh.. HAAAAAAA.... so YOU'RE the ones rebuilding our team."
GO HAWKS!!

Alaska Seahawks? - We'll Take 'Em..

I have to laugh at some people's frustrations - but then, I too have frustrations from time to time, so try to forgive when people talk crap. One of my favorite moments (?) is when certain fans get discouraged or frustrated with the Hawks performance and they don't know how to let it out. They try to vent their frustration by noting how the team does not play like a Seattle team should. They (here it comes) note how THEY PLAY MORE LIKE THE SOUTH ALASKA SEAHAWKS than the Seattle Seahawks.
HUH????.. what kind of crap is that? - Well, it is the same crap spewed by the east-coast media, of course. They seemingly use the term as though it is supposed to be a put down for the Hawks. Alaska is not a bad place to be... we are not DETROIT for gosh sakes. In fact, if you watch polls, many times the Seahawks are noted as Alaska's favorite NFL team. Many Seahawk fans live and come from all over the world. We would love to have the Seahawks be our home team. It would certainly save on the airfare, hotels, meals, car rentals, ... you know.. the little things that help stimulate an economy. ^_^
So, I say to you folks who want the Seahawks to be from Alaska, so you do not have to bare the shame, - send them up. We would love to have our own team. But since that is not going to happen, I will be happy to continue in sharing the team with you. Just, give your neighbor to the north a little love.
Go Hawks! - Tomahawker

One blog site notes, "Walter Jones is going under the knife yet again..."
Come on - I hate it as much as you do.. but let's be real. Walt has been a war horse for this team. He underwent his first "significant" surgery "LAST YEAR". It is not like he does surgery every year. To say "yet again" is unfair to someone who has done so much for this team. Is Walt done, if not maybe, then he is certainly close. Has he been a constant issue for us....... HELL NO!... Come on.. don't "EVEN" dog big Walt. This man has been everything to us.
GO WALT - and GO HAWKS!

It's the 2009 Game Schedule, Tomahawker

- Adapted from "It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" -
[Scene: Tomahawker sitting in a schedule patch, eagerly awaiting the Great Commissioner, after having dragged Mamahawker away from the Nora Roberts series on The Lifetime Channel, to wait with him.]
Tomahawker: Today the Great Commissioner will rise out of an NFL Schedule Patch. He flies through the air and brings game schedules to all the football fans of the world.
Mamahawker: [sarcastic] That's a good story.
Tomahawker: You don't believe the story of the Great Commissioner? I thought little girls always believed everything that was told to them. I thought little girls were innocent and trusting.
Mamahawker: Welcome to the 20th century!
Tomahawker: On NFL Schedule Release Day, the Great Commissioner rises from his Schedule Patch and flies through the air with his bag of team schedules to give to all the eager football fans of the world.
Tomahawker: Each year, the Great Commission rises out of the schedule patch that he thinks is the most sincere. He's gotta pick this one. He's got to. I don't see how any schedule patch can be more sincere than a Seahawk one. You can look around and there's not a sign of fan hypocrisy. Nothing but fan sincerity as far as the eye can see.
Tomahawker: [hears rustling] What's that?
Tomahawker: There he is! There he is! It's the Great Commissioner! He's rising out of our Schedule Patch! [Tomahawker faints and the "Commissioner" is really D-Hawker; meanwhile Mamahawker is seething.]
Tomahawker: What happened? Did I faint? What did he leave us? Did he leave us any Seahawks game schedules?
Mamahawker: I was robbed! I spent the whole day waiting for the Great Commissioner, when I could have been watching Nora Roberts on The Lifetime Channel. My show is over, and I missed it! You blockhead! You kept me away from The Lifetime Channel for the Great Commissioner, and all that came was D-Hawker. I didn't get a chance to see how my show ended. And it was all your fault. I'll sue! What a fool I was! I could have watched all sorts of chick-flicks, but no, I had to listen to you. You blockhead! What a fool I was. The Nora Roberts series comes only once a year and I missed it by sitting in a schedule patch with a blockhead. YOU OWE ME RESTITUTION!
Tomahawker: Good Grief – HAPPY NFL GAME SCHEDULE RELEASE DAY!

Let the Iron Dogs Run

LET THE IRON DOGS RUN

Hey sports fans, February 8th is the 2009 Tesoro Iron Dog snow machine race.

Mat-Su Sea Hawkers proudly wishes the team of Scott Davis and Todd Palin good luck, as they hurtle along the 1971 miles from Mat-Su to Nome, and then on to Fairbanks and the goal line.

Todd Palin is a member of Mat-Su Sea Hawkers, the official Seattle Seahawks booster club and a local 501 (c) (3) non-profit charity. Mat-Su Sea Hawkers is an all-volunteer organization whose mission is to support Mat-Su youth sport activities through fund-raising donations and community volunteering.

Both men have won several Iron Dog titles in the past, but as a team, Scott Davis and Todd Palin won their first Iron Dog together in 2007. In 2008, they were in pursuit of a second team win, when not unlike the 2008 Seahawks; an unexpected injury mishap derailed their efforts and prevented the team from winning. Todd hit an unseen metal drum that was buried in the snow, which caused severe damage to his snow machine, not to mention his arm. Though Todd suffered a broken arm, he and team-mate Scott Davis demonstrated a can-do team attitude. By working together, this team was able to overcome the situation and still managed to finish the race.

Similarly, this can be said about our 2008 Seahawks. In spite of a multitude of unexpected injuries, the Seahawks demonstrated a can-do attitude in trying to overcome their derailment. It was not a winning season by far, but they did not quit coming down the stretch. They regrouped and pulled together, until they hit the finish line.

SNAKE HUNT

So...On Saturday, because fellow Sea Hawker JP (and others) were in SECURITY LOCKDOWN at Sea-Tac (always a FUN time ^_^), I killed some time waiting for him to arrive, by going out to and looking around the lobby of the new VMAC training center.
Once there, I looked under chairs, I looked in the potted plants, I looked in the bathrooms, and yet... I could not find it. When asked what it was I was seeking, I calmly explained that I was on a snake hunt. I noted that our Mat-Su Sea Hawkers in Alaska were simply curious where the snake was at... you know, the one that keeps jumping out and biting our players. The one that now has our team so decimated that we can barely field and sustain a starting unit, game to game.
After JP arrived, and as we were walking through the facility, our Seahawks contact noted, "worst injury season in his years with the Hawks." And, as if to emphasis the situation... out walks Matt Hasselbeck, wearing practice shorts and a T-Shirt. Please note I said, "out walks Matt Hasselbeck." Contrary to popular belief, Matt is not in a wheelchair, not in a walker, nor on crutches. This was a good sight. Matt acknowledged us with a simple, "Hi. How are you" comment, as he continued on to workout, presumably on his back rehab.
Hawkers, I know it is tough to see our Hawks floundering, especially after playing so well for the last four consecutive years. It is tough knowing we are officially half-way through the season and in unfamiliar territory, and being three games out of first place. I know some would argue the season is over. But I have to say... I still love the Hawks, even if I too am not happy with the 2008 performance thus far.
I say, even though we are about to make some serious transitions in 2009, you need to keep the faith - win, lose, or draw.
Go Hawks!

Verily I say unto you - it is nearly the time.... and those times shall be good.... as we assend among you in Hawker Heaven.
ROAD TRIPS!!!!!!!! YEAH, FINALLY!!!
Advance warning - Tomahawker and Mamahawker are preparing for some Seahawk road trips. HELL, coming from Alaska, they are ALL road trips, for US ^_^
Alaska to Seattle for the Eagles game.
Alaska to Miami for the Dolphins game: Is anyone else going to Miami? We are staying at Miami Lakes Courtyard. Saturday drinks.. anyone? We are sitting in Section 114, row 4... Look for the Sea Hawker Booster Club banner on the rail, directly behind the Seahawks team bench. (That outta make flipper spit seawater) ^_^
Miami back to Seattle for the Cardinals game.
And finally (and I hope not our last for this year) Alaska to Seattle for the Patriots game
We always look forward to meeting Seahawk fans and converting them into card-carrying Sea Hawkers - (Official Seahawk booster club members). We will actually venture under the via-duc this season. It is our first tailgating trip out of the Qwest Field parking lot after all these years. Mamahawker shall bring unto you (at the Cardinals game) a smoked salmon dip of good proportion.
So sayeth the Tomahawker -

ICEBERG STRAIGHT AHEAD: OR - GET OFF OUR WAGON

ICEBERG... Straight ahead. Do you hear that, Hawkers?? Yeah, me too. It is the pathetic sound of fair-weather fan's fleeing the scene (AGAIN..)
You know the one's I am talking about. You see them all over the various sports blogs. They are the self-proclaiming Seahawk "rabid - true- fan's." These folks come and go as the tide of the Seahawks successes ebb and flow. They claim to be rabid Hawk fans when the team is sailing along. Yet, they are the first to jump off the ship as she lists, potentially heading for a falter.
These are the people who brag of their "die-hard fan status" for the Hawks, when we are winning division and conference championships, and then readily scorn the team with the same breath when things change. These "fans" are the ones who ride the bandwagon as it rolls down the paved road of success, but stand ever ready to jump off the wagon at the first sign of when a dirt road appears and proves too worn for comfortable travel.
I am a Seahawks fan. I have been a fan for many, many years. Like many of you, I weather the storms, the good and bad seasons, and I faithfully stand ready to champion for our team. I stand ready to cast the nay-sayers to their fate.
So, I say to you... the fairweather fan - the bandwagon fan, if you want off the Seahawks wagon, then jump. Jump before I shove your sorry ass off our wagon, so I can make room for the real fans.
GO HAWKS!!

Pork Chop, Anyone?

'Chop is one of my favorite Seahawks, simply for the reasons noted.
That he is often hurt is not his fault. It is the nature of the beast. Yes, he has had one foot out the door, since Super Bowl XL. Again, not his fault - it is the nature of the business.
That the team continues to bring him back speaks not only to his ability to play both sides of the O-line, but also his willingness to fight and compete for that opportunity.
The issue has not been about his intellect or performance on the field, but rather his inability to escape injury. It is no small feat to swap positions at random. It is no small accomplishment to rehab multiple injuries and be effective year after year.
We all know the business view on moving damaged goods. If you can move them, then do so. Can you say Joey Galloway? It is not personal, it is business. As we can see, it does not always result in the desired affect. 'Chop has been reliable for us when he can be. Galloway went on to show he, too, could have performed for the Hawks, if only given the chance.
I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you for your continued efforts on our behalf, 'Chop. You are welcome in Alaska anytime.
 Go 'Chop - Go Hawks

Let's contribute it to east coast travel, first season game, lots of starters out, etc.... If we are winners this year, this east coast stuff cannot continue to happen...... Not on this level.
 GO Hawks!!

YO.. JJ.. WORD UP

Julius Jones -
I know it is your first year with the Seahawks, and I am eagerly waiting to embrace you in to the Hawk Flock.. so I am going to cut you a little slack, this time - HOWEVER... that said, I cannot let a comment you made, go unchallenged. So, YO.. JJ.. WORD UP..
In your recent interview with Jose Romero, you compare the Cowboys training camp fans to Seahawk fans. You said, "....people will take their summer vacation to come watch the Cowboys do training camp, if that tells you anything. Here, you might get a couple families coming to watch practice, but here you get to know your teammates really well."
I will cut you some slack, cause you are new to the area. While it seems fans were few, subdued, etc... during the training camp part of this year, please know that it is NOT BY OUR CHOICE. Rest assured that you will see it differently next season. Many fans took vacations to go to Cheney, for years. In fact, thousands. Coming down from Alaska, believe you me.. it requires a vacation ^_^.
Last year's transitioning of training camp back from Cheney to the Seattle area has been a MAJOR IMPOSITION on the Seahawk fans. The old training facility simply does not support access opportunity for us rabid Hawkers. NEXT YEAR... now THAT will be a year for you to gauge the level of the 12th Man ... training camp ... circus.
Give them access..... and they will come.
Hawk on JJ.. you tear those Bears up today. Earn the love of the 12th Man... and we will see you at Spring training camp - 2009.

A BATTLE ROYAL? BATTLE of the BULGE

Greetings Hawkers - I hope your summer is progressing well and you are all chomping at the bit for the season to begin, August 8. In the meantime, here are a few local current events:
A BATTLE ROYAL - BATTLE of the BULGE: Currently underway is a SEA HAWKER v. NINER bet. The things I do to assure the integrity of our organization. ^_^
I have been challenged to a weight loss competition. The goal is 40 pounds. The bet - the loser must wear opposing fan's team logo items for one week, throughout the work area. Rest assured, I never have, nor will I EVER be placed in a position to champion the cause of the 40-whiners. That poor person is GOING DOWN!! The competition started with a weigh-in, last Tuesday.
Suffice it to say, I am slightly over my ideal drinking weight. I guess a better way to say it is that I am a little beyond svelte and can afford to lose a couple tons. So, in the infamous words of Judge Mills Lane, "Let's get it on."
Each week we will weigh in and record the progress. Today's weigh-in went pretty much like any typical Seahawk versus 49er match - the Niner's and left-coast media talk smack all week about how the Hawks will fail, and then… the Seahawks walk in and lay a beating on them. Why is this such a surprise? It happens every time. Won't those Niners ever learn?
 Today's weigh-in results:
Tomahawker: Loss of 8 pounds - 32 pounds to go
40-Whiner: Loss of 6 pounds – 34 pounds to go
OH YEAH!!... I can see that Seahawk cheering skirt and foam Hawk Head looking very good on that 40-Whiner.
Weekly update to follow – GO SEA HAWKERS!!!
 Regards,

Is My Name Earl??

Is my name Earl? Is Karma trying to tell me something?
You all know I am a Shaun fan. I'll miss Shaun, but I have to say I agree with the front office decison to move on, for the reasons stated. Part of me will continue to wonder what might have been, given the improvements being made this season.
Since releasing Shaun, I see little patterens that make me stop and blink... I wonder if Karma isn't trying to say something. For example, I find myself noticing little things occuring in the organization. Things like:
 1) New Sea Gals selected Sunday at Qwest Field for the 2008 team. Twenty-eight women were chosen from a field of 65. Only 28 were picked, meaning that 37 went home (37 went home..... hmmmmmmm).
 2) Sea Gal try-out, Janell.. Seems Janell was a candidate for Jaywalking on "The Tonight how." (Read about her antics at: http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/football/361792_moore05.html?source=rss ) Incidentally, Janell was contestant No. 37... (Again..... the 37)
 3) At the start of minicamp, 37 new guys were wearing Seattle jerseys.. (Hummmmmm.. 37 again.....)
Perhaps it is simply me, being the obsessed fan. Is it Karma? Is my name Earl? ... Here's to HOPING NOT!!!
 Go Hawks, Tomahawker

GET THE BALL - DANNY

Is it just me? Why is it that everything I read regarding the drafting of Owen Schmitt, with his facemask and head-shaving antics, immediately brings to mind the character, Daniel Bateman? You remember Daniel. The ex-SWAT, physical/tunnel vision player from the movie, The Replacements, who constantly attacked players, in glee, particularly the quarterback, Shane Falco (Keanu Reeves) when he wore the red jersey.
I cannot get it out of my mind. I can just see it now, the rapid-fire exchange between Coach McGinty (Gene Hackman) and Daniel Bateman (Jon Favreau) being played out at Qwest Field by Coach Holmgren and Owen Schmitt:
Holmgren: "Schmitt, I need you to run the ball."
Schmitt: "You want me to run the ball?"
Holmgren: "Can you run the ball?
Schmitt: I can run the ball!
 Holmgren: "You'll run the ball?"
Schmitt: (excited) "I'll run the ball!"
 Holmgren: "Go run the ball!"
Schmitt: (spitting excited, shouting) "Go run the ball!!!"
 Holmgren: "Go run the ball!"
Schmitt: (yelling, eyes of fire) "Go run the BALL!!! RRAAARRR!!!" (Owen Schmitt runs screaming onto the field)
Holmgren: "God, I hope he doesn't kill someone."
True, Bateman was on defense, and our lovable new rascal Schmitt is on offense. Nevertheless, can you not see the eerie resemblance?
Oh, I think this is going to be a fun-packed pre-season… let the games begin.

True, Bateman was on defense, and our lovable new rascal Schmitt is on offense. Nevertheless, can you not see the eerie resemblance?
Oh, I think this is going to be a fun-packed pre-season… let the games begin.

Long Live The Shaun-Man

The deathwatch on Shaun Alexander's Seahawk career is now officially over. Long live the Shaun-man. The end of the Holmgren era is at hand for the Seattle Seahawks. Part of that era included the significant contributions of one Shaun Alexander.
I know there are many folks pro and con regarding Shaun and his contributions. I am not debating people's opinions; after all, are we not each entitled to have one? Regardless which side of the fence you may sit on the Shaun issue, the record speaks for itself: Shaun Alexander achieved just 571 yards short of 10,000 Seahawk offensive yards, and over 100 touchdowns. This is no insignificant achievement. Very few people in the NFL can ever hope to make such a claim.
The 2008 season might well have brought us to that magical milestone with Shaun achieving the elusive 10,000-yard mark, and once again hearing the sounds of Sweet Shaun Alexander ringing through the whole of Qwest Field. However, we will never know what could have been, because the Shaun Alexander portion of the Holmgren/Seahawks era is over.
Being one of (I believe THE) most supportive fan bases in the NFL, we Sea Hawkers now watch, as our team wipes the slate and looks to the new future. What does the Mora era look to bring? If it is anything like the last half of the Holmgren era, perhaps we will see another young unknown, helping to lift the Seattle Seahawks and the Sea Hawkers toward, and perhaps over, that final step to the Super Bowl and victory.
Who knows, maybe a new Seahawk song or two will even emerge.....
 Thanks for the memories, Shaun.
"Sweet Shaun Alexander... Jersey 37, color blue, ....hummm.... hummm.... hummm...."
 Respectfully, Tomahawker
