2010 Mat-Su Relay For Life
The Mat-Su Sea Hawkers this year for the Mat-Su Relay for Life raised $1520.66, beating our goal of $1500.00 and beating last year’s effort of $1100.00. With help from our generous donors: Loretta Englishbee, Dianne Kiana, Tom Spindler, Mike & Jenifer Spindler, and Paul & Jean Campbell, plus the efforts of Tom and Dianne raising over $900.00 from various donors up on the slope. Thanks to all. We would also like to thank our event day volunteers: Bob Davey, Paul Campbell, Dianne Kiana, Kiana Harrington, Mike and Jenifer Spindler, Nick Good and Rick and Rhys Allen. Rhys represented us in the survivor lap (he had chemo earlier in the day and ran the lap, what a trooper!) Our other survivor, Jean Campbell, had a minor procedure done on her back earlier in the day and was not able to join in on the festivities.

Description:I know that this year has been hard on so many of us, I know I'm one of those that have had so many things happen already this year! Physical therapy, transmission replacement, and to top all that off raising 2 young girls. I am a divorced father and I have my youngest half of the time and my oldest full time, so I know how hard life can be with work schedules and children's schedules, but think how hard it is for those that are going through cancer; which I know many of you have had at least an experience with someone you know that has to endure this every day of their lives. Or maybe you knew someone that has lost the fight to this terrible disease! All I am asking is a contribution to help with the research and treatment of people that really need Our Help!Last year, our team - the Sea Hawkers South, a local fan club, raised over $5,000 for the American Cancer Society. We did this with much help from our friends: we held drawings for sports items and a big box of King crab, we cooked salmon, burgers and brats over a grill. We walked 'till our feet had blisters, and we always had one of our team members on the track at all times from start to finish. Some of us walked 2-3 miles, some 5-10 miles, and some even 15-20 miles. My daughter Stacy, who was 8 years old last year, walked 7 miles! I know that when I think about life I know that it's what you make of it, and when you do something that helps someone in need it feels pretty damn good. I know that many of you have already had a email from me, but I'm once again asking for a little help, whether its $5-10 dollars! Any amount will help, and believe me it really feels good to know that you have helped toward making somebody's life just that much better!I am putting two links on here: one for Relay for Life - the American Cancer Society, and one for a picture video of last year's event so you can see what we did.Thank you so much for taking the time to read this!Sincerely,Lester StepperThis link is for Relay for Life: http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR?px=11438989&fr_id=21855&pg=personalThis link is for the Picture Video of last year's event: http://www.seahawksundertheviaduct.com/SeahawkersSouthRelayforLife.wmv

Let's Help Blitz and The MS Fo Let's Help Blitz and The MS Foundation!
- From: baddad21

Description:
Our mascott Blitz has a few words for all of Us!
Ryan's Story:
One year and 2 months ago, I learned I was living with a disease that has no cure. That feeling you have when your foot is asleep, I had running from my ribcage to my toes. It lasted for days.
I saw multiple doctors and had a number of MRIs. All resulted in the same phone call telling me the results were inconclusive and I'd need to come in again. That changed on Dec 7th, 2008.
"Hi Ryan, the results of your brain scan came in and we'd like to discuss the results with you in person." I think I blacked out for the rest of the conversation but the nurse said something along the lines of it being important for me to come in today and that they had cleared time on the doctor's schedule if I could make it work. Of course I could make it work.
Multiple Sclerosis, a degenerative neurological disease, directly affects more people in Washington than anywhere else in the US. That afternoon I learned I was part of that statistic.
My mom thought I was dying. For those of you that know my mom, you know she is one of the most loving human beings on the planet. It hurt me more trying to comprehend her pain than to find out I had MS. It was hard on my whole family, but with the encouraging words of my dad, the compassion of my mom, and my brother moving out to Seattle to be with me, they have made it easier.
I know exactly what Lou Gehrig meant when he said he felt like one of the luckiest people in the world. I have an incredible life. In the past few years, I have been to Africa, Europe and South America, shared a stage with Steve Ballmer, been skydiving with Red Bull, and jumped off the roof of Qwest Field to the sound of 67,000 screaming fans.
As most of you know, I spend my days working at Microsoft and most of my other time running around as the mascot for the Seattle Seahawks. Every year I go to numerous walks, runs and charity events for different causes and diseases dressed as Blitz. I had been to Walk MS before, but it only registered as "another walk" to me. But last year it was different, and this year, I am starting my own team. Team Blitz.
The Seahawks have been an unbelievably supportive organization and I will be doing the entire walk dressed as Blitz, the mascot. With the support of the Seahawks and using the mascot as a vehicle for fundraising, I've been given the unique opportunity to raise money for a cause that's important to me and millions of others. I've set two goals for Team Blitz this year: the first is to raise $100,000; the second is to win the Rookie Team of the Year award. Lofty? Maybe. Achievable? Most definitely!
If you are reading this, it means we are somehow connected and I would love to have you involved. I understand you may not have the time or be able to help financially, however just by reading this message, you have already helped. If you want to actively get involved, I've outlined a few things you can do, any of which would mean the world to me.
1. Donate money. Help raise money to find a cure and donate on my team site (Don't forget to check and see if your company matches donations - I can answer questions about matching, especially for Microsoft)
2. Walk on Team Blitz. Even if you can't raise money, if you are local to Seattle, on April 11th, walk with me. Mark it on your calendar!
3. Forward this to someone, or everyone. Sometimes a note is all people need to find a cause they want to support. I know I left people out, so please pass it on.
4. Post a message on Facebook to help raise money and awareness. You can link to this website.
5. Watch a 6 minute mini-documentary my brother created on the walk.
6. Ask questions. It's totally okay.
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) affects people differently over time. I'm in the early stages and have 3 lesions on my brain; not a day goes by that I don't notice how it affects my body. It's slight now, and overall I'm doing well; but many people are not. They struggle with fatigue, they struggle to walk, they struggle with depression, they struggle with life.
Help me. Help me inspire hope and remind millions of people that no disease can ever hold us down. Join me.
Approximately 100 times a year, groups and organizations ask me to dress up as Blitz. On April 11th, I ask you to walk for me, so that I can continue to run for you.
Help today!
Ryan
We wish Ryan all best and hope we can get one heck of a large group there on April 11th!!!

John & Jerry are Hall of Famer John & Jerry are Hall of Famers
- From: spiritof12

Description:
Congratulations to John Randle and Jerry Rice, who were elected to join the Pro Football Hall of Fame as part of the 2010 class. Two class acts and fan favorites have received the ultimate honor: to be enshrined with the legends of football. Tez made it to the short list of 10 names and should stand a good chance of having his named called for the 2011 class.
Randle was an instant force for the Seahawks defense in his first season in Seattle (2001) and turned in one of most productive seasons in team history with 11 sacks, four forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in the endzone for a TD. One big reason Seahawks fans went home hoarse after a home game. Oh to have a DT like that again.
Rice raised a bit of controversy when he got permission from Steve Largent to wear his retired #80 when he signed with the Seahawks a few games into the 2004 season. But it was a class act from a Hall of Famer to grant permission to a future Hall of Famer to wear the number and make the fans proud. Rice did his part, and his final three NFL TDs came in a Seahawks uniform sporting the legendary #80.
Players today would do well to follow the mindset and determination that made these two, and those already in the Hall, so successful . - Blog post

NFL=Not For Long NFL=Not For Long
- From: spiritof12
-
Description:
The Seahawks franchise is now in the midst of a total overhaul with the firing of Jim Mora. Recent success winning division titles and a Super Bowl run in the '05 season has been followed with two dismal seasons of less than stellar play. And a four-game losing streak to end the '09 season leaves a bitter taste in the mouths of the people who matter most: Seahawks fans.
So now the Seahawks need a new head coach and coaching staff on top of a new GM. Who will they be?
Rumors are flying on the message board that USC coach Pete Carroll is a candidate for the head coaching vacancy. He last coached in the NFL in 1999 and was 33-31 in four seasons - one with the Jets and three years with the Patriots - and he made the playoffs twice. Carroll would likely demand a fairly substantial level of control over staffing and personnel decisions - as a coach and President maybe?
And as it turns out, the LA Times reported today (1/8) that Carroll met with Seahawks CEO Tod Leiweke and other members of the organization earlier this week. The Times also said that the two sides are close to a five-year deal that would make Carroll both president and head coach.
In the end it's all about winning, and as Jim Mora and former GM Tim Ruskell found out, not enough wins means Not For Long in the NFL; at least in Seattle.

Embarrassed In Texas and Not A Embarrassed In Texas and Not Alone
- From: GoneFishin0670
-
Description:
Being one of the only, if not The Only guy in Texas with a Seahawks Sticker and a Plate Rim on the back of his Red Dodge… I feel like I can run the mouth a little. Didn’t miss them when they came to Houston, in fact spent too much $ on 40 yard line front row Seahawks side line. To My surprise I was not alone, more than a few Hawks fans were in attendance. Needless and not ashamed to say, by the 2nd quarter they were getting an ear full.
It was utterly embarrassing. A QB with no fire in his eyes, a RB that spent more time kicking benches then he did running the ball, an offensive line that would not even look away from the big screen to pay attention to their coach….. But then again Why, watching him from up close, I don’t even think he can spell the word coach and I did Let him know…. And Mora…. well let’s just say he looked like he was deep in thought about something, and it was not the game. The most excitement on the field was Seneca getting pumped because he had hope he would get to play some football. Should of let him.
Where Do We Go From Here….. Start at the top and work the way down, Get people in there the team trusts and wants to listen to, a staff they can put some faith in. It reminded me of the Substitute teacher that the class won’t shut up and listen to, why would they, she is most likely a stay at home mom with no knowledge of what she is teaching, merely a body in a position. No Knock On Subs Intended. A Blatant Knock On the Coaching Staff However.
We Have Got To Have A Helmet Spinning Yell In the Ear Hole Staff. We Do Have Enough Talent That an Average High School Coach Should Be Able To Win A Few More Games Then This With What He Has To Work With.

Seahawks o Seahawks Seahawks o Seahawks
- From: Tomahawker
-
Description:
A poem - as blatantly ripped off from Walt Whitman, and modified by Tomahawker: And now, I give you - Seahawks o Seahawks
Seahawks o Seahawks –
COME my helmet-faced children,
Follow well in order, get your game day weapons ready,
Have you your pads? Have you your sharp-edged skills?
Seahawks! O Seahawks! For we cannot tarry here,
You must play my Seahawks, you must bear the brunt of game day,
You the youthful sinewy races, all the 12th man on you depend,
Seahawks! O Seahawks!O you youths, athletic youths,
So impatient, full of action, full of manly pride and friendship,
Plain we see you athletic youths, see you tramping in the team tunnel
Seahawks! O Seahawks!Has the team descended?
Was the road of late so toilsome? Did we the 12th man not encourage?,
Seahawks! O Seahawks!Have the coaches halted?
Do they droop and end their lesson, wearied over there beyond
the benches?
You must take up the game eternal, and the burden and the lesson,
Seahawks! O Seahawks! All the past we now leave behind, no hope of plays in 2009
We must embark upon a newer mightier team, varied team,
Fresh and strong the team we must build, team of labor and ready to march,
Seahawks! O Seahawks! With players steady throwing,
Down the edges, through the passes, up the sidelines deep,
Conquering defenses, holding the line, daring, venturing frequently to the end zone,
Seahawks! O Seahawks!O restless restless team!
O beloved team members all! O my 12th man heart aches for all!
O I mourn the losses and yet exult the wins, I am rapt for all,
Seahawks! O Seahawks!Raise now the mighty 12th man flag,
Waving high over Qwest Field, over all the fanatical fans,
(bend your heads all,)
Raise the 12th man flag and our warlike cries,
Seahawks! O Seahawks!See your fans, their children, and children’s children,
By the swarms of their voices upon your ears you must never yield the game or falter,
Ages back in ghostly thousands, cheering fans behind you urging, play offs – play offs
Seahawks! O Seahawks!Till the sound of the whistle in 2010
Far, far off next season calls—hark! how loud and clear you hear the 12th man already,
Swift! to the draft board – swift to the practice field, then swift to the head of the team tunnel!—swift! spring to your places,
Seahawks! O Seahawks! - Blog post

Play the Blame Game? Play the Blame Game?
- From: Tomahawker
-
Description:
Since many of the Seahawk games did not materialize and become as entertaining as we have been accustomed to in recent years, it seems the game of choice for many is now... The Blame Game. Let's Play the Blame Game.... I say, let's NOT.
What good does it do? For those who have to play the blame game, go ahead, get it out of your system. You and I know all you will really get out of it is that you get the satisfaction of saying - AHHHHHH..HAAAAAA....... It's YOUR fault!! Ok, go ahead if you must - (I'll wait while you do it.. ^_^)
OK - got that out of your system? Did it make you feel better? NOW WHAT?? Did it fix the team issues? Did it heal the injured players? Did it fix the issues with management? NOPE... But by golly, you got the satisfaction of say AHHHH..HAAA!!
Yeah, I am frustrated, as are many fans and booster club members. Rather than play the meaningless blame game, l say let's put our energy into supporting the rebuilding process and the changes that are about to happen.
Let's all get on the same page - and let's all say, "Ahhhh.. HAAAAAAA.... so YOU'RE the ones rebuilding our team."
GO HAWKS!!

Answer to all Seahawk Problems Answer to all Seahawk Problems
- From: Gomez
-
Description:
Lets Face it, the Seahawks are fickle, inconsistant and even disfunctional at times. And you know, the Seahawks have always been that way, from day one. Oh sure, we have a good year here and there, but it's like there's no Fung Shway, or their Yen and Yang are all messed-up!
There is a fundumental design flaw in the Seahawk uniform that has disrupted their Energy Flow. All these years the root of all the Seahawks problems can be traced to the "Design Flaw" on the back of their helmet. Luckily there is a simple solution: Connecting the Stripes on the back of their Helmets adds Continuity to the design, conectivity to the flow, will put some Fong in their Sway, and hopefully they can get their friggin yen and yang together!!!

Alaska Seahawks? - We'll Take Alaska Seahawks? - We'll Take 'Em..
- From: Tomahawker
-
Description:
I have to laugh at some people's frustrations - but then, I too have frustrations from time to time, so try to forgive when people talk crap. One of my favorite moments (?) is when certain fans get discouraged or frustrated with the Hawks performance and they don't know how to let it out. They try to vent their frustration by noting how the team does not play like a Seattle team should. They (here it comes) note how THEY PLAY MORE LIKE THE SOUTH ALASKA SEAHAWKS than the Seattle Seahawks.
HUH????.. what kind of crap is that? - Well, it is the same crap spewed by the east-coast media, of course. They seemingly use the term as though it is supposed to be a put down for the Hawks. Alaska is not a bad place to be... we are not DETROIT for gosh sakes. In fact, if you watch polls, many times the Seahawks are noted as Alaska's favorite NFL team. Many Seahawk fans live and come from all over the world. We would love to have the Seahawks be our home team. It would certainly save on the airfare, hotels, meals, car rentals, ... you know.. the little things that help stimulate an economy. ^_^
So, I say to you folks who want the Seahawks to be from Alaska, so you do not have to bare the shame, - send them up. We would love to have our own team. But since that is not going to happen, I will be happy to continue in sharing the team with you. Just, give your neighbor to the north a little love.
